This is a pretty pathetic but tonight I dismantled my bike for the last time. It’s dead thanks to some git that tried to steal it last week outside Mistakes. Whilst breaking it down I couldn’t help but get nostalgic for this horrible lumbering clump of metal. It weighs slightly less than two classic mini’s, and it’s brakes were as useful as a chocolate teapot, but I loved the stupid, horrible thing. I bought it from a chap in Walthamstow the month I moved to London and got lost cycling it back to Hackney(!) It was an impulse buy, costing me far too much & practically falling apart on that first ride. It’s since had three new wheels, one new seatpost, all new (old) brakes, new gears, a new bottom bracket, a new chainset, new chains, pedals & every possible cable & bearing replaced. I’ve cycled it to Brighton, Southend & Milton Keynes and I’ve been taught how bikes fit together by it. But now it’s broken and it’s sad. Bye bike, I’ll miss you.
